Meson Academy was erected in A.D.1807 and liberally endowed by Francis Meson, who died on September 8, 1806. The inscription also records the dates 1806 and 1897 and names the Meson Academy trustees as Dr. W. Z. Faust, chairman, Wm. Gottheimer, secretary and treasurer, Hamilton McWhorter, Geo. C. Smith, Edgar Maxwell, and G. W. Brooks, along with the building committee of Dr. W. Z. Faust, chairman, Geo. C. Smith, and W. J. Cooper, and the contractors Edgar Maxwell and G. W. Brooks.
