Nevling's Keystone Inn, in operation circa 1849 to the 1890s, stood on the old Wilderness Trail between Tyrone and Grampian. In May 1861, Col. Irvin passed by here with the Bucktails en route to Tyrone during the Civil War. This was the last stage route in the county circa 1906. Nearby Janesville was named for Jane Nevling. Smith's Mill P.O., established in 1826, was named for early settler and gristmill owner Amasa Smith.
