Dalco Obed Langston, a native of Oakvale, Mississippi, was born in 1904 and died in Ashville in 1997. After graduating from Mississippi College, Mississippi State University, and Auburn University, he taught in Mississippi before settling his family in Ashville. He was an educator for twenty-four years and served as Superintendent of Education in St. Clair County for four years. Much of his career was spent teaching at the original Ashville High School, located where D.O. Langston Park stands today. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Order of the Eastern Star, the Alabama Education Association, and National Education Association, and he was honored as a Who's Who among Educators in America. He also served the Ashville community through volunteerism and charitable acts, was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Ashville, supported senior citizens, and devoted himself to God, his wife Pearl May Langston, who preceded him in death, their five children, and many descendants.
