Hofstra University Arboretum spans 240 acres across the university campus in Hempstead, New York, serving both as the campus landscape and as a botanical collection. Its grounds contain more than 12,000 evergreen and deciduous trees representing 625 species and varieties of woody plants, including native and exotic specimens. Rather than a single enclosed garden, it functions as a broad living survey of woody plants integrated into the campus. Counted among the 430 arboreta in the United States and affiliated with the American Public Gardens Association, it also includes a two-acre bird sanctuary developed as an educational prototype for New York State.
