Billies Bay Wilderness is a 3,092-acre wilderness area in Florida within Ocala National Forest, established on September 28, 1984. Mostly marshy and swampy, it contributes to the headwaters of Alexander Springs Creek in the nearby Alexander Springs Wilderness. Its name uses a Florida sense of “bay” meaning a swamp rather than open water. The area supports varied vegetation, including red maple, sweet gum, cabbage palm, palmetto, gallberry, several oaks such as sand live oak, sandhill oak, myrtle oak, and Chapman’s oak, and pines including longleaf, loblolly, slash, and sand pine.
