Daniel E. Weltzien, a pilot and hometown son, envisioned a flying community where every family would have a plane in the garage for work or play. In June 1965, the Williams Farm on Acme Hill was transformed into a runway with taxiways to every home. Young men and women came for flying lessons and later traveled the world in space, the military, and commercial aviation. Despite fire, tornadoes, an earthquake, Ohio winters, and severe crosswinds, students continue to come here for their first flight and to become pilots. In Ohio, birthplace of aviation pioneers, Skypark became the flying community, a first in Ohio because one man dared to dream.
