London Bridge Branch is a protected wildland in the Appalachian Mountains on the Virginia-Tennessee line near Damascus and Laurel Bloomery. Spanning parts of the George Washington and Jefferson and Cherokee national forests, it has been recognized as worthy of protection from logging and road building. The area centers on a steep ridge rising from about 2,000 to 3,600 feet, crossed by the Iron Mountain Trail and linked to the Appalachian Trail, with overlooks toward nearby valleys and ridges. Its oak-dominated forests, trout stream, varied geology, and surviving traces of old logging roads and railroad grades reflect both its natural richness and its history of timbering and roadless-area conservation.
