Galena Peak is a 12,461-foot mountain in Colorado on the crest of the Sangre de Cristo Range, along the boundary of Fremont and Saguache counties at the east side of the San Luis Valley. Visible from Highway 285 near Villa Grove, its summit lies within the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness on land managed by San Isabel and Rio Grande National Forests. The mountain rises steeply, standing about 3,860 feet above the valley in only two miles. Its west slope drains toward San Luis Creek, while its east side feeds the Arkansas River through Hayden Creek. It has an alpine subarctic climate with year-round precipitation, including winter snow and summer thunderstorms.
