Harrington Beach State Park was once a busy quarry and company town where limestone was blasted loose, hauled in steel cars by mules, pulled by cable along inclined tramways, crushed by a giant crusher, and shipped out on wooden, slab-sided ships via Lake Michigan. The park was established in the early 1960s, 40 years after the quarry closed.
