Archie D. Stevenot, who lived from September 25, 1882, to August 1, 1968, founded the Mother Lode Association in 1919, and that organization created colorful Highway 49, California’s first highway association. A plaque and 100 year capsules were placed on July 23, 1976 by the Golden Chain Council of the Mother Lode and the Grand Council of E Clampus Vitus.
