Marshy Point Nature Center in Middle River, Maryland, stands along Dundee and Saltpeter Creeks and combines indoor exhibits with extensive parkland focused on native wildlife and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. Operated by Baltimore County’s Department of Recreation and Parks with the nonprofit Marshy Point Nature Center Council, it opened to the public on May 1, 2000, after groundbreaking in 1998 supported by a $2.7 million grant. Maryland also purchased the trails behind the center that year, and a 2005 expansion added 30 percent more space. Marshy Point Park includes 8 miles of trails, a boat dock, and a canoe launch, along with regular public programs.
