Zachariah "Zack" Davis Wheat lived on this farm, where his home was completed in 1924, before leaving in the mid 1930's. He played for Brooklyn in the National League from 1909 to 1926 and for Philadelphia in the American League in 1927, spending 18 years in the Brooklyn outfield. He held Brooklyn records for games played with 2,318, at bat with 8,859, hits with 2,804, singles with 2,038, doubles with 464, triples with 171, total bases with 4,003, and extra base hits with 766. His batting marks included .375 in 1923, .375 in 1924, and .359 in 1925; he was league batting leader with .335 in 1918, and finished with a lifetime batting average of .317, 2,884 hits, and 2,406 games played. In 1959, he was unanimously elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame and was the only player elected that year.
