Wallace State Park in northwestern Missouri, about seven miles south of Cameron, is a 573-acre public recreation area centered on six-acre Lake Allaman. The park offers swimming, fishing, boating, hiking trails, picnic areas, and a campground. Missouri began assembling the park in 1932 with the purchase of its first 121 acres. It was named for the Wallace family, who had owned the land for more than a century, and much of its early development was carried out in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration. The park endures as a local outdoor destination shaped by its New Deal-era beginnings.
