Lincoln Academy was founded by Emily Pruden, an educator and philanthropist from Orange, Connecticut. It was a co-educational boarding and day school for children of African descent in grades 1-12. The school was accredited in 1923, was sponsored by the American Missionary Association, and was located on Lincoln Academy Road. It was also the home of Mildred Wellmon Elementary School, a historic Rosenwald building.
