Kings Pinnacle is one of the two main peaks in Crowders Mountain State Park in North Carolina’s western Piedmont, rising prominently above the surrounding countryside alongside nearby Crowders Mountain. An exposed remnant of a quartzite ridge formed about 400 to 500 million years ago, it is a monadnock in the Kings Mountain Belt and reaches 1,705 feet above sea level. The mountain also stands in a landscape shaped by human history: it marked a division between the historic hunting grounds of the Cherokee and Catawba peoples, and the Battle of Kings Mountain was fought nearby in 1780. Today, a trail leads to broad views from the summit.
