Known also as Old Town, about one quarter mile south, Old Clitherall was named for Major George B. Clitherall, U.S. Land Officer, and was settled in 1865 by a seceding group of Latter Day Saints. The community flourished for many years but gradually disintegrated, and with the building of New Clitherall, the old town has nearly disappeared.
