Club Eaton opened in 1946 during segregation as the first “Big-Time” nightclub for African Americans, featuring entertainment by notable and successful African American performers including Duke Ellington, BB King, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, The Drifters, and Tina Turner. It grew to become internationally recognized because African American entertainers often performed in other countries. Its name changed to Mr. B’s Club in 1985, later to Heroes’ Night Club, and then to Club Kona.
