George Rogers Clark's conquest of the northwest was one of the most heroic chapters of the Revolution. En route to Vincennes from Kaskaskia, Clark's troops followed a trail from the present site of Xenia to Lawrenceville that was almost exactly the present route of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Clark and his men passed over this very area in their arduous journey, which ended with their capture of Vincennes late in February 1779.
