Hesperus Ski Area
History
6
Hesperus Ski Area, near Hesperus in southwestern Colorado off U.S. Highway 160, opened in 1962 as a small local mountain rather than a major destination resort. It has 13 runs between a summit of 8,880 feet and a base of 8,200 feet, with a 680-foot vertical drop and terrain that skews advanced, including many expert runs as well as beginner and intermediate slopes. Its facilities have included a double chairlift, a long-closed rope tow, a tubing hill, rentals, lessons, and a snack bar. After operating every season from 2006 through 2023, it closed for the rest of 2023–24 and also for 2024–25 because of chairlift mechanical problems.
