Pottstown Landing was a distinctive canal village in northern Chester County where village life centered on the business of the Schuylkill Canal from the 1830's into the 1920's. Farmlands of the Reiff, Wanger and Whartnaby families formed a village along Laurelwood Road at the canal. Village buildings included loading docks, boat offices, boarding houses for boatmen, a wheelwright shop, a blacksmith shop, a school and a chapel.
