Chestnut Hill Reservation in Boston’s Chestnut Hill and Brighton neighborhoods surrounds the Chestnut Hill Reservoir as both a public recreation area and a preserved historic landscape. Managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, it forms part of the Chestnut Hill Reservoir Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a City of Boston Landmark. A one-mile path encircles the water, which anchors the landscape and supports walking, wildlife observation, shoreline fishing, and notable birding, with at least 195 species recorded. The adjoining Reilly Memorial Recreation Center and the nearby Metropolitan Waterworks Museum connect active recreation with the history of Boston’s water system.
