Built in 1921 by J.A. Robinson, the Robinson Building stood on what was called the most valuable vacant lot in Whitefish's emerging downtown, with land and construction for the planned brick building estimated at $30,000 and built in the same style as the new Presbyterian Church a block south. Star Clothing and Shoe Co. and Haines Drug opened there on October 3, 1921, and both left in 1925. In 1945 the Frederick family acquired the building, and it was later owned briefly by jeweler Joe Gerber and his wife Hazel, then by Clyde "Buddy" Decker and his wife Florence, and later by dentist John Petersen. Over the years it housed a pharmacy known at different times as Neville Drug, City Pharmacy, and Chalet City Pharmacy, as well as Van Aken clothing for a few years in the 1950s. In the 1960s and 1970s Florence Decker operated a popular women's clothing store there, and after her death the shop passed through a succession of owners. As of 2002, Dr. Petersen still practiced in the east part of the building while specialty shops run by owner Ladd Lincoln occupied the rest.
