Pearl Lake State Park in Routt County lies at the base of Farwell Mountain near Hahns Peak Village, north of Steamboat Springs. Built around the 167-acre Pearl Lake, it is known for quiet water and forests of fir, spruce, and pine. The lake was named for M. Pearl Hartt, wife of sheep rancher John Kelly Hartt, whose companies summered flocks near Hahn's Peak. After his death in the early 1950s, Pearl Hartt sold the land to the U.S. Forest Service, helping the area shift from agriculture toward recreation. The park now supports camping, boating, fishing, picnicking, and winter activities including skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing.
