Hahns Peak is a Colorado mountain rising to 10,774 feet and ranks as the state’s 1,855th highest summit. It gave its name to nearby Hahns Peak Village and was named for gold miner Joseph Hahn, who came to the area in the 1860s with William Doyle and George Wray. The summit later became the site of a United States Forest Service fire lookout tower, built in 1912 and used until 1946. Restored in 2016 and 2017 after years of disrepair, the lookout connects the mountain’s mining-era origins with a later role in Colorado’s forest and conservation history.
