Dusty Star Mountain is an 8,573-foot peak in the Lewis Range of Glacier National Park, Montana, standing south of Going-to-the-Sun Mountain across the Saint Mary Valley and joined by an arete to Citadel Mountain. Prominent from the Going-to-the-Sun Road, it often appears in views toward Wild Goose Island on Saint Mary Lake. Its Blackfoot name, iszika-kakatosi, means “meteor” or “smoking star.” The mountain is made of sedimentary rock deposited from the Precambrian to the Jurassic in shallow seas, and its shape reflects the park’s larger geologic history, including the Lewis Overthrust, which began lifting ancient rock about 170 million years ago over younger Cretaceous rock.
