Strawberry Peak is a 6,164-foot mountain in California’s San Gabriel Mountains, about 10 miles north of Pasadena and widely visible from greater Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. The tallest front-range peak by a margin of three feet over nearby San Gabriel Peak, it was named more than a century ago for a shape mountaineers thought resembled an upside-down strawberry. Long regarded as one of the range’s best-known hiking goals because of its prominence and closeness to the city, it can be reached by a 7.2-mile round-trip trail from the east or a class 3 scramble from the west. After closure following the Station Fire, it reopened in 2014 and remains a popular destination.
