In Nevada City, California, this museum preserves the history of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad, which linked Nevada and Placer Counties from 1876 to 1942. Founded in 1983 and operated by the Nevada County Historical Society, it holds photographs, documents, artifacts, and restored equipment from that line. Its best-known locomotive, Engine No. 5, was built in 1875, joined the railroad in 1899, survived a 1915 fire, and later appeared in Hollywood films after the railroad closed.
