Samuel Neilson was an Irish patriot of 1798 and one of the founders of the United Irishmen, who sacrificed his fortune and his life in the cause of his country. Born in County Down, Ireland, in Sept 1761, he died in Poughkeepsie, New York, on August 29, 1803.
