Potato Mountain, near Claremont, California, rises on the southern edge of the San Gabriel Mountains at about 3,422 feet above sea level. As one of the first mountains encountered when entering the Angeles National Forest from this side of the range, it marks the shift from nearby foothill communities into the broader mountain landscape. Although lower than the higher summits farther into the range, its prominent position at the front of the San Gabriels makes it a familiar and recognizable landmark at the forest’s edge.
