The building at 100-102 W. Chicago is the third on this site after two earlier buildings were destroyed by fire in 1859 and 1898 or 1899. The earliest occupant, in 1831, was the first frame hotel on the Sturgis prairie. After the 1859 fire it was rebuilt as the Prairie House hotel, and after the second fire the present brick building was constructed. The location has housed at least 20 different professional, retail, and service businesses, and Great Lakes Chocolate and Coffee opened here in 2002.
