Sally Ann Furnace was originally built as a charcoal furnace by Valentine Eckert in 1791. Nicholas Hunter became owner in 1803. It was operated by Nicholas Hunter and Son from 1804 to 1825, by Jacob Van Reed Hunter, son, from 1825 to 1861, and by J. Nicholas Hunter and Henry A. Hunter from 1861 to 1869. In 1879 it was changed from water to steam power and was operated by other interests until 1881. A mansion was built by Jacob V.R. Hunter.
