Silver Cord Cascade is a slender horsetail waterfall in Yellowstone National Park, where Surface Creek drops from Ribbon Lake on the south rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to the Yellowstone River about 1,200 feet below. Generally regarded as the park’s tallest waterfall, it gained notice for its narrow, threadlike descent against the canyon wall. Members of the Washburn–Langford–Doane Expedition first called it Silverthread Falls, and later efforts to rename it failed before the Arnold Hague Geological Survey established Silver Cord Cascade as the official name in 1885. It remains notable for the striking contrast between its delicate appearance and the vast canyon surrounding it.
