Inspiration Point is a scenic overlook on the north rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park, above the Yellowstone River and east of Yellowstone Falls. A promontory cliff, it provides a natural observation point over the canyon rim and has become one of the canyon’s established viewpoints because of its elevated position and broad outlook. The site was first named Promontory Point in 1878 by W. H. Holmes. In 1887, park concessionaire G. L. Henderson renamed it Inspiration Point, the name it has retained ever since.
