Ourant's School, a one-room schoolhouse on Ourant Road east of Deersville, Ohio, was built in 1873 and served its community until 1941. Preserved as a museum and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, it remains a strong example of a simple rural school, with whitewashed board walls, a sandstone foundation, a porch, tall windows, a belfry with the original bell, and a central chimney. Its interior is furnished to reflect the 1870s, and three restored outbuildings survive nearby. After alumni bought the property, restoration efforts and the Ourant School Memorial Association kept it in educational use through scholarships and student visits.
