Salvador Wildlife Management Area is a protected wetland about 11 miles south of New Orleans in southeastern Louisiana. Spanning more than 36,000 acres, it supports diverse plant and animal life and is managed mainly for public hunting, fishing, and boating, with no commercial harvesting. Accessible only by boat, it lies within a broader network of wetlands, bayous, and lakes and has grown through multiple land purchases, including the addition of the White Tract in 2017. Managed together with nearby Timken Wildlife Management Area, it also reflects coastal Louisiana’s environmental challenges, including erosion linked to canals, storms, and altered river systems, while serving conservation and recreation.
