Thomas Ashburn was born in Bolton, England, on July 11, 1769, and died in New Richmond on Feb. 15, 1828. He founded Susanna in 1816 and donated this riverside promenade and other parks and sites to be used forever for worship, education, and the enjoyment of all. Susanna, named in honor of his wife, merged with New Richmond in 1829.
