Quinault Rain Forest is a temperate rain forest in the Quinault River and Lake Quinault valley on the western side of Washington’s Olympic Mountains, within both Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest. In this glacially carved landscape, exceptional rainfall of about 17 feet a year supports dense old-growth forest and an extraordinary concentration of giant trees. Known as the Valley of the Rain Forest Giants, it contains the largest known western red cedar, Sitka spruce, western hemlock, Alaskan cedar, and mountain hemlock, as well as five of the ten largest Douglas-firs. It is also one of only two places outside the Carolinas with a naturalized population of Venus flytraps.
