The pioneer Springer family donated the original two acres for this graveyard and gave their name to the surrounding community and to a school also known as McPherson School. The cemetery was later called Macedonia for a nearby church founded in the 1890s. Burials there probably predate the earliest marked grave, that of Oliver McPherson, who died in 1871. Enlarged by additional gifts of land, the community burial ground contains about 300 known graves and has been maintained by the Macedonia Cemetery Association, incorporated in 1976.
