Great Piece Meadows
Nature
Great Piece Meadows is a seven thousand one hundred-acre freshwater swamp in northern New Jersey, extending across Lincoln Park, Montville, and Fairfield. This wooded wetland lies mostly within a broad bend of the Passaic River, a setting that shapes both its form and its ecology. Heavy rain and snowmelt regularly swell the river and cause seasonal flooding, making high water a defining feature of the landscape. Part of the Northeastern coastal forests ecoregion, Great Piece Meadows forms one of the region’s notable riverine wetland areas.
