York County Courthouse is the site of the oldest continuous court records in the United States. Dating back to 1636, they include a patent conveying the land between the Piscataqua and Kennebec Rivers from Charles I to Sir Ferdinando Gorges. Its facade is a copy of that of the original courthouse built on this site in 1807 and burned in 1933.
