Rev. Charles McGee chartered the WV Normal Industrial School for Colored Orphans in 1899. It opened in Central City in 1900, then moved to a 190-acre farm near Huntington and Guyandotte. It served African-American orphans and indigent children. The state bought it in 1911, and it operated until 1956 and integration. The brick building dates to 1922 and was listed in the National Register in 1997.
