Hunter's Grocery's new brick building was constructed in 1918 by J.H. Hunter after his old wood frame store and a large part of Huntland were destroyed by fire on Aug, 9, 1917. The store provided grocery items for Huntland and for Paint Rock Valley in Jackson County, Alabama. Lore holds that beer and sugar were sold by pick-up truck load for residents and moonshine stills of Paint Rock Valley. J.H. Hunter's son, Hunter Jr., known as Redbuck, took over the business in the 1940s. It became a place where farmers enjoyed a beer while waiting for their wagons full of cotton to be unloaded at the Huntland Cotton Gin. Hunter Jr. served as the local road commissioner from 1952 to 1986, and later the new highway to Huntsville was named in his honor. The grocery was sold in July 2016 to new owners who, in honor of John H. Hunter, Jr. Redbuck, changed the name to Redbuck's. The business celebrated its centennial anniversary on October 6, 2018.
