Mabel Garvin Tarver Crawford served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on May 6, 1945; while on assignment to United States Naval Intelligence OP-20-G, she was presented the Exceptional Award by the National Security Agency at Washington, D.C., for rendering exceptional service on Project Ultra in the breaking of the German code during World War II, contributing to the saving of many lives and bringing World War II to an early victory.
