Aiken State Park, near Windsor, South Carolina, was established in 1934 as one of the state’s 16 original parks and developed for outdoor recreation centered on access to the Edisto River. Its construction was tied to the Civilian Conservation Corps, with the work here carried out by an African American detachment. Many original buildings from that New Deal era remain in use, preserving a strong connection to the park’s beginnings. The park continues to serve as a public recreation area, offering activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, camping, biking, bird watching, and nature walks, along with basic river-oriented facilities.
