Samuel Jamison leased this building to the Hooper Jewelry Company from 1896 to 1916. A 1900 advertisement said Hoopers offered stationery, souvenirs, jewelry, books, film, cards, and Kodaks. Kodak cameras, invented in 1888, were the first hand-carried cameras with a roll-film arrangement. Early Kodaks were shipped to the factory with the film still inside for developing and printing, then returned to the owner loaded with fresh film. W.E. Armstrong, the store's general manager, lived on the second floor and, recognized as a successful businessman and able leader, was elected to the City Council in 1915.
