In 1975, Idaho's Bicentennial Wagon joined 49 other state wagons from across the country in a pilgrimage to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania to celebrate America's Bicentennial. Before leaving for Valley Forge, it visited schools, communities, and parks throughout Idaho. It followed the Oregon Trail in reverse with other Pacific Northwest wagons, wintered at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, and arrived near Independence, Missouri in May 1976. The pilgrimage then headed to its final destination on July 4, 1976. After camping at Valley Forge for two months, the wagon was returned to Idaho to be cared for by the Department of Parks and Recreation, the original sponsor of the Idaho Bicentennial Wagon.
