Tuckahoe State Park
Nature
Tuckahoe State Park, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore along Tuckahoe Creek in Caroline and Queen Anne’s counties, blends recreation with a strong emphasis on native landscapes. Its most distinctive feature is Adkins Arboretum, a 500-acre garden and preserve that maintains more than 600 native plant species and offers classes in horticulture, ecology, and natural history. The park also includes a 60-acre lake for fishing and boating, about 20 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, plus camping, cabins, hunting, a playground, and part of the American Discovery Trail. In 2009 and 2010, nearby development debates highlighted its value as protected rural landscape.
