Lorenzo was founded when the Crosbyton-South Plains Railway ran its first train there on April 10, 1911. It was named for Lorenzo Dow, an employee of the C. B. Livestock Company, which promoted the town and in 1914 encouraged the area to plant cotton. The town was incorporated in 1924 and is now a center of cotton growing, with fine churches, school, and businesses.
