In Colman, South Dakota, area veterans are honored for their service to the country in times of war and peace so others can enjoy cherished freedoms. The memorial includes veteran pavers bearing the names of local service members from multiple generations and branches, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, reserves, and related units, with service spanning conflicts from World War I through more recent military operations. It also includes the poem "Come Visit My Grave" by Jim Rolfes, a Memorial Day reflection in the voice of a fallen veteran urging the living to remember those who died, visit their graves, and honor the sacrifice made for family, friends, and country. The project was supported from 2017 to 2019 by major donors, committee members, organizations, businesses, families, and donor pavers that helped make the memorial possible.
