In the late 18th century, Thomas Meeteer established a paper mill on the banks of nearby White Clay Creek. In later years, his sons Samuel and William succeeded him in the business, and in 1816 the brothers purchased the property on which this house stands. It is believed that the structure was built soon afterward. By the 1820s, the brothers were among the largest property owners in Mill Creek Hundred, and the large, impressive home reflected their wealth and importance. In 1974, the Stanley Yasik family purchased the property and renovated it for use as a funeral business. A well-preserved example of the vernacular Federal style, the Meeteer House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
